Let's go through the news around Netflix this week together.

LEGEND: Positive News | Neutral News | Negative News

1. UBISOFT PARTNERSHIP

Netflix has partnered with Ubisoft to bring a brand new game to us, Valiant Hearts: Coming Home

Netflix announced plans to push into gaming recently and has been making strides and partnerships to bring that to reality. They believe this could be a significant revenue generator for them long term!

2. SUCCESS WITH AD TIER

Netflix is serious about their new Ad Tier offering, and they're going all in.

In a recent note to advertisers, Netflix stated signups for their Ad Tier had doubled in January!

This pricing option may become more popular in months ahead as Netflix cracks down on password sharing as well, and some users turn to the cheaper ad option to still access their favorite movies and shows.

3. PASSWORD SHARING CONFUSION

News has been circulating his week on details around the new password sharing change that's coming to Netflix.

But most of what you've read is incorrect.

Netflix in fact has not made it clear (yet) how this new crackdown will work. However, they did briefly publish an article for South America around this, which is what media outlets caught onto.

In a statement to The Verge, Netflix said that “For a brief time on Tuesday, a help center article containing information that is only applicable to Chile, Costa Rica, and Peru, went live in other countries. We have since updated it.”

Details on the password sharing is coming soon, so keep your eyes peeled for this - but as of right now it's still unclear how this will work.

4. GM PARTNERSHIP

Netflix and GM have entered a partnership to showcase some of GMs EVs in upcoming Netflix movies and shows.

Netflix stated that this is not a product placement deal, but rather a partnership that will help GM gain publicity and help Netflix push creators towards using EVs for production.

There will be a Superbowl ad, featuring Will Ferrell, that will kick off this partnership.

5. AI BACKGROUNDS

Netflix is experimenting with using AI to create Anime.

A new short film, The Dog & The Box, was the first production to test this out where the backgrounds for this show was created using AI.

This could be a HUGE cost reduction for Netflix going forward if they're able to implement this outside of animated videos as well, and would drive even more content generation for the platform.

The biggest cost Netflix incurs is production - and if they can reduce this, their free cash flow and profitability will continue rising - thus resulting in the stock outperforming as well.

6. ANALYST CHANGES

No changes in analyst ratings to report this week for Netflix.
